Precetto Fortress

Built in the 18th century by the  Lombards as a defensive system of the St. Peter in Valley abbey, the Precetto Fortress was completely rebuilt between the 11th and 13th centuries becoming a true and proper castle. The fortified structure is divided into two areas; the "Fortress” on high and the “Castle" below, surrounded by crenellated walls. The fortress has a triangular plan with two access gates; the "Saracen Gate” and the "Roman Gate”. The tower, with a pentagonal base, controlled the surrounding area (especially the road and bridge) and communicated with the other towers by fire signals. The fortress can be visited via a biking path which leads to the tower viewpoint.
